#What are content workflows?

Content Workflows help bring structure and clarity to your content creation process. From draft to publication, it ensures the right actions are taken by the right people at each stage, keeping things organized and moving forward.

Without a clear workflow, content teams often face challenges like maintaining consistency, tracking progress, and managing approval processes. Content Workflows solves these problems by introducing a step-by-step approach, guiding content through every phase. This way, everyone stays on the same page, and nothing falls through the cracks.

#Clarity, control, and custom workflows

With this built-in feature, content teams can easily assign roles and responsibilities for each step and content model, all based on pre-defined permissions within the Hygraph project. Teams can quickly see who needs to be involved and when, and whether content should move forward or return for revisions. To keep everyone aligned, reviewers can add in-context comments.

Here’s what the new Content Workflows feature can do for you:

  • Create structured workflows: Content teams can design clear, step-by-step workflows that can be customized to your team’s unique process, bringing clarity to both content creation and approval
  • Assign precise roles: Easily define who’s responsible for each step in the workflow, ensuring that only the right people can edit and approve content for publication.
  • Automate content movement: Once content is approved at a specific step, it automatically moves forward, cutting down on unnecessary back-and-forth and saving valuable time.
  • Enhance visibility and tracking: Editors can filter and view content by workflow step, getting real-time insights into where each piece of content stands.
  • Maintain control and consistency: Keep your content’s integrity intact by preventing unauthorized changes and ensuring version control is upheld throughout the approval process.

#Workflows: Key to content quality

Content workflows are essential in many scenarios, especially when teams need to collaborate across functions and manage content that demands high standards. A well-defined workflow ensures every piece of content goes through the proper checks and processes. Whether it's for high-accuracy content like fact-checking, compliance reviews, or multimedia approval, or even a relatively simple review process like a blog review, workflow keeps everything organized and efficient (see example below).

#Why Hygraph is the best place for your content workflows

Hygraph makes content workflows simple by integrating them directly into the platform, so there's no need for third-party tools or complex setups. Many content teams rely on external apps or project management systems to manage workflows, but these can add extra steps and require ongoing maintenance. With Hygraph’s content workflows, everything is built right in, so your team can work more smoothly and efficiently without the hassle of going back and forth between Hygraph and external tools.

By keeping your workflow management within Hygraph, you also ensure that your content follows your pre-defined team’s roles, permissions, and governance standards including GDPR compliance. This means your team can focus on what really matters: creating and publishing great content while Hygraph takes care of the behind-the-scenes work.
